450M. Appointment of Jail Visitors.- (1) The Central Government or the State Government, as the case may be, shall, for every District or Jail, appoint not less than three visitors, of whom at least one shall be a medical officer and two shall be social workers, of whom at least one shall be a woman, wherever practicable.

(2) Not less than two visitors, out of them at least one shall be a lady social worker, shall, one in every six months, make a joint inspection of every part of the jail in the District in respect of which they have been appointed, with a view to ascertaining in regard to female prisoners the conditions prevailing therein and whether the requisite facilities are being provided and the provisions of the law are being complied with and whether the direction, if any, given by the Sessions Judge, or the High Court or the Supreme Court, an the case may be, are being carried out.

(3) The visitors shall send a report of their inspection in the Sessions Judge, he shall deal with such report in the same manner as has been prescribed in section 450L in respect of the report of inspection submitted by a judicial officer.
