Report No. 58

Earlier inquiries

2.12. The inquiry which we have undertaken is not the first of its kind. In previous Reports of the Law Commission, procedure in Civil1 and criminal2 matters has been dealt with comprehensively. The jurisdiction of the Supreme Court on the civil appellate side, has been the subject-matter of the Law Commission's Reports3. The main objectives, in the previous Reports of the Law Commission4, have been to reduce delay and expense in the judicial process, to simplify the procedure, and generally to advance the interests of justice. In a sense, the present inquiry is a logical continuation of the work already under taken.

1. 27th and 54th Reports.

2. 37th and 41st Reports.

3. 44th and 45th Reports.
