16. Departmentalisation of Union Accounts (Transfer of Personnel) Act, Act 59 of 1976

Recommendation: Repeal
The Act provided for the transfer of officers serving in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department (selected through the Indian Audit and Accounts Service) to any Ministry, Department or office of the Central Government for facilitating the efficient discharge of responsibilities related to compiling accounts within these offices.
This legislation formed part of the process of the creation of Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS). ICAS personnel are now recruited through the Civil Services Examination. The Act has fallen into disuse and its purpose has been served. Hence, this Act can now be repealed.
