23. Difference in figures and words.-

If the amount undertaken or ordered to be paid is stated differently in figures and in words, the amount stated words shall be the amount undertaken or ordered to be paid:

Provided that if the words are ambiguous or uncertain, reference may be had to the figures to fix the amount.1
