Report No. 43

7.111. Section 14 to be retained and extended.-

Strictly speaking, the section is not required, as there is a general provision in the Criminal Procedure Code1 on the subject. However, as the section is harmless, it may be retained. If it is to be retained, we think that it can be usefully extended to some of the offences2 which we propose to include in the law, as an emphasis on the power to hold proceedings in camera can be useful for those offences also.

1. Section 352, Criminal Procedure Code, 1898; section 335, Criminal Procedure Code Bill, 1970.

2. (a) Disruptive activity,

(b) Para-military groups,

(c) Treasonable relations with foreign States,

(d) Treasonable deception,

(e) Sabotage.
