6.3.2 In 1974, Costa Rica introduced an ambulatory treatment without confinement for Persons affected by Leprosy along with an education campaign to combat discrimination against Persons affected by Leprosy.101 In 2002, the commitments to eliminating the disease by 2005 were further strengthened by the government of Costa Rica through several protocols and public health measures, such as the re-instauration of epidemiological vigilance and the strengthening of capacities for health professionals.102
