3.18. Punishme.- type of.-

There were six types of punishments-fine, reprimand, torture, imprisonment, death and banishment. The punishment was graded according to several factors. It was material to consider whether the offence was the first crime of the offender1 or whether it was his second criminal act, and so on. The time and place (of the offence) and the strength and knowledge (of the offender) were to be fully considered.2
