How to prevent a divorce

Preventing a divorce is always easier than getting one. However, young generation in India would feel contrary to it. We see more and more young couples in India becoming less tolerant and putting less effort to save their marriage. When the expectations from their spouse are not met and the life-as-planned go down the drain, the word “divorce” starts creeping through the edges of conscience. And when emotions are in turmoil, rational thoughts of preventing a divorce are like ideal solutions of fairy tale world. But few amends and strategies can work wonders for your on-the-verge marriage.

Here are some advice on how to prevent a divorce and to find way back into love and happiness of solid marriage.

Communicate not dominate

Effective communication is a blend of finding the root cause, focusing on the conflicting issue and discussing the problem to find an amicable solution. Most couples in India are easily hit by the disagreeing issues in their lives, which they do not resolve but just keep blaming each other. In urban India, most couples are from different family cultures. Imposing your cultural and family values and expecting ones spouse to completely follow the other’s system is even worse than debating on who is right. Key is in combining and setting common grounds as a couple rather than debating on which one to choose.

Accept changes

In India, after marriage there are numerous societal obligations of rituals and ceremonies that couples do not get time to preserve their relation. Indian couples are often expected to start their family within a year, which further steal away the limited time they get to spend with each other. Just like you fix appointments to complete your commitments to professional and social activities, think that your marriage is one of them and you have life-commitment to your spouse. Spend some quality time with each other to understand the person whom you had married and what have they become after marriage. Your needs, expectations and ways of dealing with life have changed. Give time to yourself, get accustomed to changes and accept them as a part of an on-going process of life.

Friendship releases Stress

Being friends with your spouse is a recipe for happy and successful marriage. However, Indian couples hardly think of marriage and friendship as a compliment to each other. Many a times, it happens that your marriage start giving vibes of mere social obligation and you start thinking that you would be much better without this additional responsibility. Friendship with your spouse can relieve you of building blocks of reasons for divorce. Share with them your fears and doubts with unreserved mind.

Be faithful

Some old advices are evergreen. Extra-marital affairs and adultery never helps in taking off the pressure but is only nudging you towards ending a perfect knot of marriage. Loyalty towards your spouse is of utmost importance to feel the trust and respect. If you have sexual addiction or you feel your spouse is unable to meet your physical requirements then seek professional help.

Re-connect with your partner

It is important to understand that no matter how much you enjoy being comfortable in your own skin, you need to re-evaluate your appearance as well as your behavior from time to time. It freshens up relations, break monotony of life and re-spark the connection.

If you want your relationship to be enduring and productive, first thing you need to understand is that you will have to work a little harder to enjoy the fruits of marital bliss. Follow this obvious but useful guideline to prevent a divorce.
