Chapter I

Preliminary

1. Short title, extent and commencement.-

(1) This Act may be called ²[the Pre-conception and Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection)] Act, 1994.

(2) It shall extend to the whole of India 3***.

(3) It shall come into force on such date4 as the Central Government may, by notification in the Official Gazette, appoint.

(w.e.f. 31-10-2019).
