1 The Act has been extended to Berar by the Berar Laws Act, 1941 (4 of 1941); to Dadra and Nagar Haveli by Reg. 6 of 1963; to Goa , Daman and Diu by Reg. II of 1963 and to Laccadive , Minicov and Amindivi Islands by Reg. 8 of 1965 and supplemented in its application to Assam by the Assam Rural Panchayat Act. 1948 (Assam Act 27 of 1948).

3 Substituted by the Adaptation of Laws Order, 1950 for former sub-section (2).

5 In its application to Pondicherry , after sub-section (2), read: -
