College Information:
This Institution hardly needs any detailed introduction. All connected with the cause of education directly or indirectly are very well acquainted with its achievements and glorious record of service in the field of female education.

More than five decades ago when the atmosphere was least conductive to the dissemination of female education, this institution took upon itself the Herculian task of resisting popular ignorance. Today by its long established brilliant record, it has endeared itself to all the wellwishers of women folk. Making a formal introduction is absolutely unnecessary.

It served as a beacon light and a source of enlightment not only in the days when female education was rather an uncommon phenomenon; but even today when the network of educational institutions is spread all over the state, it continues to hold the position of pride.

Bhai Sahib Bhai Narain Singh Ji, father of Late Padamshri Bibi Harparkash Kaur (the govtof India conferred on her the title of Padam Shri in the year 1960 and she was the first women recipient of this honour from State of Punjab), ExPresident of the College Trust, had a dream to raise an institution which would impart education to women, who are regarded as the founders of a civilized society, state and nation.

After loosing his only son in 1908, his attention was totally diverted towards the fulfillment of his dream, which bloomed in the shape of a Girls School which was started in his residential Haveli as it was converted into the school in May 1909. At the outset, it was a primary school but in the course of time it was raised to middle School and in 1934 to a recognised High School.

Before breathing his last Bhai Sahib created a Trust named “Shri Guru Hargobind Ujjagar Hari Trust” and dedicated his entire property to the sacred cause of education. He left for his heavenly abode in 1944 and entrusted his illustrious daughter, Bibi Harparkash Kaur, to keep the torch burning.

Bibi Ji felt the pulse of time and realizing the necessity of higher education for girls, raised it to Degree College in 1950. After that basic training college in 1955. At present, the trust has under its control different educational institutions for women, catering to the needs not only of Punjab and Haryana but also of the students from other parts of the country and foreign countries as well.

The trust is running Post Graduate Degree College for Women, College of Education for Women and two Senior Secondary School (one affiliated to C.B.S.E and other to Punjab School Education Board.)In the chain of institutions, the trust last year has started 'G.H.G Institute of Law for Women' with an objective to impart high quality legal education and primary training to girl students.

The primary mission is the creation of a generation of able, competent and humane lawyers who will not only enter the Bar and Bench but will also be equipped to address effectively the global challenges of today and tomorrow. The Institute endeavours to reach out national and overseas student community. Location:

The Institute is situated at Sidhwan Khurd on the LudhianaJagraon Road. It is at a distance of 30 Kms from Ludhiana and 8 Kms from Jagraon. There is a regular bus service after 15 minutes from Ludhiana bus stand which passes by Sidhwan Khurd. Nearest railway station is Chaukiman, at a distance of 2 kms from the Institute. Affiliation & Approval:

The Institute is affiliated to Panjab University, Chandigarh and is duly approved by the Government of Punjab and The Bar Council of India, New Delhi.Aims & Objectives: The main objective of the Institute is to impart quality education and primary training to the girl students.

The Institute primarily aims at the creation of a generation of able, competent and humane lawyers who will not only enter the Bar and Bench but will also be equipped to address effectively the imperatives of the globalized world of today and tomorrow.

A lawyer has to do global lawyering and thus has to be fully equipped with knowledge of comprehensive transnational legal systems so that the lawyer in a globalized world is capable of taking independent decisions.Teaching Methodology: The teaching methodology shall be a blend of traditional lecture method with the modern Socratic method.

The method of teaching law involves the study and preparation on the part of the student of preassigned cases and other requisite readings well before she comes to the class and her active participation in the class discussion, thus leading to a meaningful discussion between the teacher and the taught.

Under the Socratic Method the student is not a mere passive recipient of information but an active participant in the classroom discussion that follows. Theatrical classroom teaching is supplemented by clinical legal work.

It also includes preparation of project reports, project presentations, and submission of assignments, seminars, mootcourts and field survey work. This is necessary because the main object of the new method is to inculcate in the students the skills and art of advocacy and to train her to think like Lawyers, Judges and Legislators.
