The National Law Institute University (NLIU) has been established by Act No. 41 of 1997 of the Madhya Pradesh Legislature to fill the gap and providing most modern legal education through multidisciplinary teaching and training of newer skills needed for the profession.
The University launched its first academic programme in 1998 and teaching for five year B.A., LL.B. course commenced from September 1 of that year. Established by Act No. 41 of 1997 of the Madhya Pradesh Legislature, the National Law Institute University (NLIU) was launched in 1998.
It uses multidisciplinary approach to teach and train students in latest professional skills and impart modernistic legal education. Right from its inception, the University offers fiveyear integrated B.A., LL.B. course for students who have completed their studies at 10+2 level.
The Halls of Residence have a common room with colour television and cable network, landscaped lawns, reading room, gymnasium and indoor sports facilities. Mess facility offers different menu for each day of the week, including North Indian, South Indian and Chinese food. Quality of food is good and meals provided include breakfast, lunch, evening tea with snacks and dinner.
The campus also houses administrative block, guest house, cafeteria, healthcare and sport facilities and banking facilities. Conveyance and transport facilities are available for students, faculty and staff members for commutingas well as for student activities such as clinical programs, court visits, legal aid work and field studies.
Twice a week, buses go to city as a scheduled departure.The University is devoted to the use of modern methods of teaching and evaluation. It emphasizes the advantages of learning through small groups in clinical setting. The year is divided in 3 trimesters of 70 working days each.
The lectures are accompanied by extensive teachingmaterial prepared and consistently revised by the faculty. Use of audiovisual equipment, small group sessionals, computorials, externships, internal moot courts, simulation and other learning by doing techniques form the core of tutional arrangement.
The student is expected to write one paper in each course later followed by substantive dissertation in seminar courses.The cumulative effect is to make for an intensive environment of learning where the teacher and the taught cooperate in inquisitive exploration.
