Mahatma Gandhi University was established in 1983 and inaugurated by His Excellency the President of India on 26th October 1983. It was subsequently been granted full recognition by the University Grants Commission. It is a member of both the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The headquarters of the University is at Priyadarshini Hills, about 12 kms away from Kottayam town. The University has 25 teaching and research departments, 11 University Colleges of Teaching Education, 26 regional centers, 3 study centers, 5 information centers and 49 Off Campus Academic Centers. There are 108 colleges affiliated to the University. University Library was the first in the country to be fully automated as stipulated by U.G.C.The LL.M. Degree Course is a threeyear programme offered to provide opportunity of pursuing postgraduate study in law to those who are in employment including selfemployment or practice of law.
