Rajanahalli Laxmana Shetty Law College saw its inception in the year 1968. It was envisioned by the Bapuji Educational Association with the purpose of imparting legal education to the students in and around Davangere district. Sri. Rajanahalli Laxmana Shetty a philonthroper came forward to donate for the construction of the proposed Law College.
The management of the Bapuji Educational Association is agreed to accept the donation and resolved to name the college after him as "R.L. LAW COLLEGE" When the college was started in the year 1968 the college was affiliated to Mysore University and later on it was affiliated to Kuvempu University.
It is continuously recognized by the Bar Council of India, New Delhi for running 5 Year and 3 Year LL.B., Courses. The Bar Council of India, New Delhi inspection team visited the Institute in August 2004 and recommended for permanent affiliation for 5 Years and 3 Years LL.B., Courses. And college is accredited by NAAC by 'B' Grade.
The college was celebrated its Silver Jubilee during the year 1992. Silver Jubilee celebrations of the college was inaugurated by former chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India Late Sri. E.S. Venkataramaiah on 24th September 1992.
The valedictory and memorial lecture was delivered by former chief Justice of Supreme Court of India Sri Ranganath Misra. Several memorial lectures were delivered by various High Court Judges like Justice M. Rama Jois, Justice A.J. Sadashiva and Justice M.F. Saldana. Various Judges of The Supreme Court of India and several Judges have visited the college on different programmes.
