Gujarat Law Society felt the need for starting a Law College in the walled city of Ahmedabad in the year 1958 and City Law College came on the legal arena to render this useful social service.Since its inception the college has rendered invaluable service in the cause of legal education and successfully completed 50 years of its existence.
During these years the college has produced judges, Lawyers and Law Graduates who are playing leading roles in different walks of life.The college was popularly known as “City Law College” since its foundation. In the year 1975 Late Shri I. M. Nanavati, the Hon.
Secretary,Gujarat Law Society, generously donated handsome amount of Rs. 2 lakhs and the college was renamed as "I. M. NANAVATI LAW COLLEGE".The inspiring zeal and managerial ability of Late Shri I. M. Nanavati had gone a very long way to confirm on the college the status it has today. The institute is affiliated to GujaratUniversity.
The institute is also recognized under 12(B) and 2(f) of the University Grants Commission Act.At I. M. Nanavati Law College, we try to fasten well balanced and multi-sided flowering of students personally encompassing intellectual, physical, moral, emotional and aesthetic aspects we endeavor to impart man making, character molding and life building education.
The institute imparts instruction in the course leading to the degrees of LL.B. (General) at the end of two academic years and LL.B. (Special at the end of three academic years) each academic year is divided in to two semesters. Viz: Monsoon Semester and Winter Semester.
The institute has recognized Post–Graduate Centre imparting instruction in Group: B Criminology Law leading to the degree of LL.M. at the end of two academic years.
