Rakesh Aggarwal Memorial International Law Seminar on "Relationship between the Union and the State: A Constitutional Dilemma"

Ideal Institute of Management and Technology & School of Law is going to organize the Rakesh Aggarwal Memorial International Law Seminar on "Relationship between the Union and the State: A Constitutional Dilemma".

Date: 23rd January, 2016

About the Seminar:
India being a Parliamentary Democratic Republic follows the federal system of Government at the same time is described as "Union of States". India follows the dual polity system, i.e. a double government as central authority at the centre and states at the periphery. The Constitution, based on the principle of federalism with a strong and indestructible Union, has a scheme of distribution of legislative powers designed to blend the imperatives of diversity with the drive of common national endeavor.

The current trends emphasize cooperation and coordination, rather than demarcation of powers, between different governments. The Centre, for its part, feels displeased at the attitude of States over various issues. The Centre also resents the States' for claiming the credit of successful implementation of Centrally-sponsored projects. It is felt that the real source of many of our problems is the tendency of centralization of powers and misuse of authority.

The Seminar aims at Centre-State relationship in India in the light of constitutional provisions. In the current scenario, with the confrontation among the different parties ruling at the Centre and in the States this issue becomes more relevant and deserve more focus and greater contemplation.
