National Conference on the Protection and Enforcement of the Rights of Women and Children
School of Law & Centre for Post Graduate Legal Studies, ITM University is pleased to organize a National Conference on the Protection and Enforcement of the Rights of Women and Children
Date: 24th April, 2015
About The Conference:
In spite of so many positive initiatives for woman and child development, both at the international and national level, the situation is still not very promising for these two groups. They still remain as the most vulnerable faction of the society and widespread deprivations in one form or the other are rampant in their cases. Women and children still remain vulnerable to abuse and are less likely to protect themselves from discrimination, humiliation, torture and exploitation due to adverse socio-cultural milieu. Their rights still stand as mere words of statute. Gender justice or gender equality is essential since women constitute half of the world population, but ironically even in this era of rights we are still combating with evils like female feticide and female genital mutilation.
Female sexuality itself has been a victim of many myths, stigmas and stereotypes even in the twenty first century, in spite of its claims as the century of knowledge and development. Likewise, children suffer from various forms of exploitation like child abuse; child labour, pornography and a substantial portion of them are deprived of their rights to survival, health, nutrition, education and even safe drinking water. Above of all women and children are largely the victims of trafficking.
As women's subordination to men begins in childhood itself, efforts to combat discrimination must begin from childhood only. If a girl learns how to assert her rights while she is still a child, she is more likely to be able to successfully exercise her rights as a woman. No development can be said to have been achieved without taking along the women and children. For creating a world of peace, equality, tolerance, security and freedom, special care and attention is required to be provided to the women and children.
This conference intends to gives a platform to the legal fraternity to analyze the various legal provisions, national and international, for the development and advancement of the situation of women and children. It further provides opportunity and prospects to examine the lacunas or ambiguities if any, in the available legal system and to give suggestive measures.
