International Seminar on "Climate Change and Law: It's Impact on the Indian Environmental Jurisprudence"
Ideal Institute of Management and Technology & School of Law is organizing the Rakesh Aggarwal Memorial International Seminar on "Climate Change and Law: It's Impact on the Indian Environmental Jurisprudence".
Date: 20th January, 2015
This Seminar aims for a glance at the rich diversity of international, regional, national, sub- national and transnational legal responses to climate change. The Indian Constitution is one among the few Constitutions in the world that has provisions on environmental protection. Climate change can mark the beginning of a new phase in Indian environmental jurisprudence. The need of a statue limiting Green house gas emissions which damages the protective layer of ozone and which halts the global, economic progress is highly debatable at this stage
However, there are many concepts already existing both in the environmental and human rights legislation which mandate state action. These could be the foundations of emerging climate change jurisprudence in India which does not compromise its developmental pursuit, but at the same time addresses the larger issues of inter-generational and intra-generational equity.
