Tamil Nadu Technology Development & Promotion Centre of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in association with Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) is organizing a one day Seminar on Intellectual Property Rights and Biodiversity.

Protection of IPR and Biodiversity: Opportunities and Challenges for the Industry and Stakeholders
Objective:
As its ongoing initiative to create a 'Strong IP Ecosystem' in the state of Tamil Nadu and country, TNTDPC has been working on several capacity building programs for the Indian Industry and academia to attain global leadership by harnessing and leveraging IP. TNTDPC is organizing this seminar with the theme of "Protection of IPR and Biodiversity: Opportunities and Challenges for the Industry" for the benefit of Indian Industry, Academia, and R & D with focus on Agri and Seed sector.
The seminar on IPR and Biodiversity will act as a platform to understand the implications and role of IPR and Biodiversity for the agriculture and seed Industry. The seminar will help in gaining an insight on theCurrent status of implementation of Biodiversity Act in India and consideration of revisions, if any with a journey to the rich Biodiversity of TN and its protection by IPRs for sustainable development.

Introduction to Biodiversity Act and Rules in Tamil Nadu : Overview
- Role of IPRs in Fulfilling Objectives of Biodiversity Act : Regulation on filing of IPRs -Do's and Don'ts for the stakeholders
- Challenges in Access and equitable Sharing of Benefits from the Utilization of Genetic/Bio- Resources
- Implication of the Biodiversity act for Biotech and Life science Industries
- A Journey to India's Biodiversity- Exploring Bio-resources for Value based products for the Industry and Society
Faculty:
The program will have speakers from National Biodiversity Authority (NBA), BIRAC and Intellectual Property officials. They will be joined by experts from Private sector, Industry and Legal domain to bring in a wide yet focused perspective on the subject matter.
