NUJS-CUSAT Conference on Copyright Amendments 2012: A Fair Balance?

The MHRD IP Chairs at the National University of Juridical Sciences (NUJS) and the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) will jointly host a conference on 'The Copyright Amendments, 2012: A Fair Balance?' to be held in Kolkata on 27th and 28th November, 2012.

This conference will explore the latest amendments to India's copyright regime, amendments that have far reaching implications for copyright jurisprudence, industry practice and social justice. As with most legal policies, the amendments seek to balance various competing interest groups, ranging from the entertainment industry to disability rights groups. We invite academicians, policy makers, IP practitioners, the industry, civil society organizations and students to brainstorm and reflect on the amendments and the various interpretative challenges.

The introductory session will undertake an overview of the amendments and the various interests at stake. It will also include a history of the amendments. Part I will deal with amendments pertaining to the entertainment sector. Part II will deal with those amendments pertinent to the technology sector. Part III, the most voluminous part, will deal with the various copyright exceptions and limitations. The last will deal with copyright governance issues, notably collecting societies and the copyright board.

Dates: 27th and 28th November, 2012
Venue: NUJS, Salt Lake, Kolkata

Registration:
The conference is open to all. Those interested to attend the conference are requested to send an email to iptls@nujs.edu with their names and designations by 20th November, 2012.

No registration fee is required for students enrolled in any university and non-profit organizations. For others, the fee is Rs. 5000 for registering and attending. You will also be invited to the gala evening (with a creativity theme) we have planned on the 27th November night.
