Contemporalis 2012 - 1st Legal Writing Competition on Contemporary Legal Issues

International Journal of Contemporary Laws and International Council of Jurists with an intention to develop research writing instincts among the future generation of legal professionals is organizing Contemporalis 2012, 1st Legal Writing Competition on Contemporary Legal Issues.

It will be an annual effort from the side of International Journal of Contemporary Laws to promote the research writing culture on the contemporary legal issues among the students.

Themes for Contemporalis 2012:
Contemporary Developments, Trends or Issues pertaining to:-

  • Arbitration Proceedings with regard to International Trade Laws
  • Regional Mechanisms for Protection of Human Rights
  • Intellectual Property Rights with regard to Domain Name Disputes
  • Cross Border Mergers and Acquisitions

Participants will be appreciated in case they choose any specific sub theme or topic within these themes.

Eligibility Criteria:
Person of any age and nationality pursuing any undergraduate or post graduate degree in the arena of law or social science is eligible to participate in the essay competition. In case of joint participation; the numbers of authors is restricted to two.

Presentation Rules:

  1. Submission must not exceed 4000 words (exclusive of footnotes).

  2. The essay must include references in the form of footnotes. The Bluebook Citation (18th Edition) should be followed for the citations.

  3. All submissions must adhere to the following requirements:
    • Font: Times New Roman
    • Font Size: 12 units
    • Line Spacing: 1.5 spacing
    • Footnote Font Size: 10 units
    • Footnote Spacing (within footnotes): 1.0 spacing
    • Footnote Spacing (between distinct footnotes): 2.0 spacing

  4. Submissions should be sent only as soft copies to "contemporalis@gmail.com" in .doc or .docx fomat only. An abstract not exceeding 200 words mentioning the key issues and setting out the main conclusions reached, must be attached. The subject of the mail should be 'IJCL Essay Submission 2012'.

  5. The last date of submission is 20th November, 2012 latest by 23:59 hours Indian Standard Time. Late submissions will not be accepted in any circumstances.

  6. No part of the essay should contain any form of identification of the participant.

  7. All submissions must be original and bona fide work of the participants; plagiarism will result in automatic disqualifications. The contestants by entering in the contest agree to indemnify the organisers from and against all claims, suits, and damages based on any claim of copyright infringement or plagiarism or unauthorized use.

  8. All entries shall be considered to be the property of International Journal of Contemporary Laws which reserves the right of publication of the same in any book, journal or in any other manner as it may deem appropriate, without providing any royalty or compensation

Registration:
To register for the essay competition, the participant must send us the registration form along with demand draft of INR 500 or 10 USD (for both single and joint en-tries) in favour of 'Vinayak Gupta' payable at Patiala addressed to Mr. Gaurav Arora, P.O. Box No. 2, Head Post office, Patiala-147001 on or before 5th November, 2012.

The scanned copies of both the registration form and the demand draft shall also be sent to contemporalis@gmail.com and info@ijcl.co.in on or before 5th November, 2012.

Certificate of participation and appreciation shall be given top 20 entries. All registered participants shall be provided with free access to Westlaw India for a month.
