NALSAR - Admission Notice for M. Phil & Ph.d Courses for 2010-11
NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad, an institution of national eminence in the field of legal education and research, is a residential University established under the NALSAR University Act, 1998, (Andhra Pradesh Act 34 of 1998). It provides an opportunity to explore limitless options in legal profession and is setting new standards in legal education.
One Year M. Phil Degree in Law
Eligibility: LL.M. Degree from any recognized University securing not less than 55% marks or its equivalent.
Total seats: The number of seats available in subject areas are; IPR - 05; Corporate Law - 05; Family Law - 05; International Law - 05; Environmental Law - 05; Taxation - 05; Banking and Finance - 05. The number of seats available may be increased or decreased depending on the availability of the Faculty resources and quality of research proposals. Seats may also be offered in any other specialized areas of Law subject to availability of Faculty resources.
Ph.D. Degree
Eligibility: To be eligible for admission to Ph.D. Degree, the applicant should have;
i) obtained a Master's Degree in Law from any recognized University securing not less than 55% marks or its equivalent; or
ii) obtained a Degree in Law and Master's Degree with M.Phil in Social Sciences or Humanities or Sciences from any recognised University with not less than 55% marks or its equivalent Provided that candidates with qualifications in Social Sciences, Humanities and Sciences may be admitted to the Degree if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of Law with a special focus on Public Policy or Law; or
iii) degree in Law and Ph.D. in any discipline; or
iv) judge of any State High Courts in India with three years experience or Judge of Supreme Court of India; or
v) obtained 2 years Master's in Taxation and Business Laws offered by NALSAR with not less than 55% marks; or
Note: For the candidates under this category, the topic shall be in Taxation and related subjects and the Degree to be awarded will be called as Ph.D. in Taxation (only for IRS Officers).
vi) those who have Passed the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India and awarded the Associate Membership of the Institute (ACS) shall be eligible for admission to the Degree if the research they wish to pursue interfaces with the discipline of Law with a special focus on Public Policy or Law.

Procedure for Admission
a. The admission shall be through a written test to be conducted on Saturday, November 13, 2010 from 2.00 p.m. to 4.00 p.m. at NALSAR University Campus, Justice City, Shameerpet, Hyderabad and New Delhi.
b. Candidates who have qualified for UGC NET / JRF, SLET, and M.Phil. are exempted from taking the admission test.
c. All qualified candidates shall make a presentation on the proposed topic of their research on a date notified by the University.
Pattern of the Test Paper
Total Marks: 100
Duration: 2 Hours
All Essay Questions: There will be two questions from each specialization offered and the candidates should answer any two questions. All questions carry equal marks.
All correspondence relating to admission should be made to the Registrar at the City Office address only. The Application Form can be obtained by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.1,000/- (Rs. 500/- in case of S.C. and S.T. candidates along with Caste Certificate) in favour of "Registrar, NALSAR" payable at Hyderabad. Application Form can also be downloaded from the University website and the filled in Application should be sent along with a Demand Draft for Rs.1, 000/- (Rs.500/- for S.C./S.T.). The duly filled in Form must reach the Registrar on or before October 18, 2010. Applications received after the last date shall not be accepted in any circumstances. The University will not be responsible for any delay.
