3rd Annual International Summer School on "Understanding Competition Law: Perspectives from Asian Countries"

The School of Legal Studies, Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT), Kerala is going to conduct virtually the 3rd Annual International Summer School on "Understanding Competition Law: Perspectives from Asian Countries".

Date: 26th July - 1st August, 2021
Time: 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm (IST).

This Summer School is a flagship initiative of the School of Legal Studies and a milestone in the field of Competition Law in India. At present, there are not many institutions in India, who are actually takers of this subject. It is pertinent to note, that the School of Legal Studies happens to be one among the few institutions in India where Competition Law is taught as an undergraduate law subject and as a specialized paper at post graduate level.

About the Summer School:
Globalization, liberalization and the development of market-systems in India have on one hand improved the quality of life of individuals and on the other hand have brought stiff competition among the different market-players and stakeholders to the forefront. The unhealthy competition often leads to the adoption of anti-competitive practices and thereby causes exploitation of the consumers. Various countries have adopted Competition Law / Anti-trust Law / Anti-monopoly Laws to deal with the anti-competitive practices in the market. These legislations address the issue of effective competition in the market and seek to curb anti-competitive practices with a view to promote effective competition in the market and maximization of consumer welfare. Since Competition Law is an emerging subject, this one-week Summer Cchool on Competition Law, will provide an opportunity to the law teachers and researchers to get a comprehensive and in-depth understanding about competition law in India as well as competition law in different Asian countries. On successful completion of the Summer School the participants will receive a certificate of participation from SLS, CUSAT.
