About Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth:
Chinmaya Vishwavidyapeeth (CVV) is a Deemed-to-be-University in the 'de novo' category, started in 2016, the centenary year of the inspirational Visionary and Founder of Chinmaya Mission, and renowned spiritual master and teacher par excellence, Swami Chinmayananda. CVV, with its headquarters at Chinmaya International Foundation (Adi Sankara Nilayam, Ernakulam, Kerala, India), has been established as a torchbearer for the preservation of Indian cultural heritage and its knowledge traditions through higher education. The core mission is to blend the ancient and time-tested wisdom of India with present-day knowledge fields. It is breaking new ground wherever necessary and adopting the merits of all that has come before, with a leaning towards the winds of innovation. LL.M. (Legal Theory):
The LLM in Legal Theory is a unique programme in India that offers an array of select theoretical courses on Law. We approach legal theory to include critical reflection on issues in domestic as well as international law that integrates methodologies and perspectives from several disciplines such as legal history, political philosophy, cultural anthropology, political economy, social and political psychology, public policy, feminist legal theory, critical legal theory, Indic knowledge systems and Indology etc. to gain a multi-dimensional understanding of legal problems. The programme builds on collaborative efforts of the different departments of the Chinmaya University and creates an excellent opportunity for interdisciplinary engagement with leading scholars from India and abroad in a lively intellectual community. The programme is a highly distinctive course centered on lectures and seminars delivered by some of the most leading theorists designed for highly motivated students who wish to seek a career in academia.
An emphasis has been given to research on Indian History and Knowledge Traditions in order to facilitate students to further pursue research work on India-specific legal policy. The programme is best suited to the law-graduates, who want to pursue an academic career in law and jurisprudence. Law students who want to pursue attorney's profession can also benefit from this course, if they intend to practice in the higher courts of the Nation. It will better equip them with skills of interpretation, with the backing of theoretical framework.
LL.M. (International Trade and Commercial Laws):
The 1 year LL.M in International Trade and Commercial Laws provides the opportunity to study how the law relates to commercial endeavors within a globalised economy from the perspective of a legal practitioner. The program intends to cover a broad range of commercially focussed modules that draw on the wealth of commercial expertise across academics and industry. The faculty of CVV brings together highly qualified law professors and experienced law practitioners to ensure that the classroom experience is supplemented with adequate practical training on issues related to trade and commercial laws.
Chinmaya University's programme on international trade and commercial laws, with its comprehensive coverage on the topics related to the globalisation of markets, the export-import laws, the expansion of international and regional trade in goods and services, and the dispute settlement mechanisms, aims at fostering a legal framework within which Markets and States can co-operate for the development of human societies. Chinmaya University, having its core specialty of Indian Knowledge Traditions, is opening up the legal course on Foreign Trade, where the training of trade capabilities shall be tempered with the knowledge and awareness of cultural traditions of the nation. It is pertinent not only for India, that it develops trade policies which are less disruptive of its respective cultural textures, but also to the rest of the world, with it being one of the prominent leaders of developing nations in all international forums and associations.
Eligibility:
- Candidates should have scored a minimum of 50% in their LL.B. There will also be tests / interviews to determine selection of the candidates for the programme
