Ordinance for the Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) In Law, Gujarat National Law University

This programme is intended for those qualified and intellectually outstanding candidates who wish to pursue the research work after completion of their Post Graduation in Law.

Eligibility:
An applicant seeking admission to the Ph.D. Degree Programme must have: a Degree of Master of Laws (LL.M.) from any recognised University in India or any degree recognized as equivalent with a minimum 55% marks or M.Phil Degree in Law with B+ grade or equivalent. Candidate should qualify the GNLU admission test. The results of the admission test shall be restricted only for that academic year. Candidates who have qualified UGC NET/SLET are exempted from GNLU admission test and they are eligible for direct admission. The eligible candidate may apply to the Registrar on the prescribed form which can be downloaded from the official website along with application fee in the form of a Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Registrar, GNLU and payable at Gandhinagar. All applications shall be considered twice in a year as per the following schedule:
(i) The first Week of March
(ii) The first Week of September

Duration Of Programme:
The minimum and maximum time permissible for completion of Ph.D. Degree shall be as under:
(i) Part Time: Minimum Three Years and Maximum Five Years.
(ii) Full Time: Minimum Two Years and Maximum Three Years.
The duration of the Ph.D. Programme and the time for submission of the thesis shall be counted from the date of the provisional registration.

Important Timelines:
Submission of hardcopy of Application Form: 26th March 2010 along with application fee and other enclosures.
Admission Test: 11th April 2010.
The Admission Test is of 3 hours duration of 100 marks.
Multiple choice questions of 40 (one mark each)
Three questions of 10 marks each (not exceeding 500 words)
Two questions of 15 marks each (not exceeding 1000 words)
Subjects for the admission test are: Constitutional Law, Jurisprudence, Research, Methodology, International Law, Human Rights & International Humanitarian Law, Criminal Law, Contemporary Issues on International Trade, IPR and International, Economics.
Date of Entrance Examination: 2nd May 2010 (Sunday)
