Workshop on Understanding the Copyright and Related Rights

Indian Law Institute is going to organize the Workshop on Understanding the Copyright and Related Rights.

Date: 21st - 26th November, 2016

About the Workshop:
The Indian Law Institute will be conducting a National Workshop on "Understanding Copyright and Related Rights". The workshop is of great significance during a time when we all find ourselves placed in quandary regarding the conflict between copyright and access to information. The basic object of the copyright law is to foster creativity by rewarding authors for their works. But this goal is fulfilled only when such creations are properly disseminated among the general public. The central idea of copyright resides in balancing the right of access to copyrighted work with monopoly of the creator over the work.

The recent judgment in the Delhi University photocopy case has restored the balancing conclusions by contending that copyright is not an inevitable, divine or natural right that confers on authors the absolute ownership of their creations. This pronouncement has discarded the populist and one-dimensional postulation that copyright is just about the protection of property rights of owners.

Who should attend?
The workshop offers academicians, scholars, lawyers, publishers and law students an opportunity to develop better understanding of the copyright law and related concepts.
