5th International & 9th Biennial Conference of the Indian Society of Victimology

The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences and Indian Society of Victimology are jointly organizing the Fifth International and Ninth Biennial Conference of the Indian Society of Victimology

Venue: West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences, Salt Lake City, Kolkata

About the Conference:
The Fifth International and Ninth Biennial Conference of the Indian Society of Victimology, aims to provide an International platform for scholars across multiple social science disciplines to come together, and share their research on victim rights, services for victims and other victimological research. The conference will provide its participants an opportunity to interact with academics, researchers, law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, judges and policy makers from around the world. The plenary sessions of the conference will include lectures by notable experts in the field. The conference will also provide an opportunity for young and senior scholars alike to network, share knowledge and keep track of the current trends and concerns in victimological research.

Theme:
"Victimization of the Vulnerable in Criminal Justice System: Issues and Challenges"

Call for Papers:
We invite papers relating to victmological research (theoretical/empirical) on the following themes:

  • Gender and Vulnerabilities
  • Children, in particular issues of Child Labour, Child Trafficking, Child Sexual Abuse, Sentencing of Juveniles and appropriate processes for Trial of Juveniles
  • Violence and Victimization of the Elderly and Response of Criminal Justice Administration
  • Poverty and the Criminal Justice System, National and International Norms for Early Release of Under Trial Prisoners
  • Victims' Voices in Criminal Justice System, Witness Protection System and its Challenges
  • Victims of Cybercrimes
  • Persons with Disabilities and Victimization
  • Development induced Displacement, Violence and Victimization
  • Communal Violence, Victimization and Repairing the Harm

Authors who wish to present their work at the conference are requested to submit an abstract (between 400 and 500 words, 12pt, times new roman) to isvconference20l6@gmail.com or by post to:

A panel of experts will select potential papers from the abstracts received.

Registration:

Till 31st October, 2015

  • For Practitioners/Academics/Researchers: Rs. 2500/- for Indian Nationals
  • For Practitioners/Academics/Researchers: US $ 100 for foreign Nationals

From 1st November, 2015 to 31st December, 2015:

  • For Practitioners/Academics/Researchers: Rs. 3000/- for Indian Nationals
  • For Practitioners/Academics/Researchers: US $ 150 for foreign Nationals

Accompanying persons: Rs. 2000/- (for food and beverages on the days of the conference)

For Students (on production of certificate from the head of the relevant institution)

Till 31st October, 2015:

  • Indian Nationals: Rs. 1500/-
  • Foreign Nationals: US $ 100

From 1st November, 2015 to 31st December, 2015:

  • Indian Nationals: Rs. 2000/-
  • Foreign Nationals: US $ 150

Note that only 50 students shall be accommodated, on a first come-first serve basis. However, preferences will be given to those students who have full papers to present.

The Registration fee will cover the food and beverages on the days of the conference and conference materials. Kindly note that the organizers will not be providing accommodation for the participants - however, a wide range of budgetary accommodation in the form of hotels, lodges and home stays are available in proximity to the venue and assistance may be provided by the organizers to those who find it difficult to locate a suitable accommodation on their own. The organizer will soon upload a list of hotels / places to stay near the conference venue, on the conference website with necessary details.

Guidelines for Registration

The applications for registration and accommodation should reach the committee, in the form enclosed, along with a Demand Draft payable at Kolkata on or before the above mentioned dates. The Demand Draft must be drawn in favor of "ISV Conference 2016".

Participants who are not Indian Nationals are responsible for ensuring that they obtain the necessary travel documents for that purpose. The Organizing committee will provide the relevant and necessary documentation (such as invitation letters etc.) which will enable processing of travel documents.

Delegates and students are advised to participate in the conference only after confirmation of their registrations.
