4th UPES International Model United Nations Conference - 2015

University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun is pleased to invite you to the 4th edition of the UPES Model United Nations Conference.

Date: 7th - 8th February 2015
Venue: University of Petroleum & Energy Studies, Dehradun

Model United Nations or MUN conferences are a recreation of the United Nations System and its operations. By simulating the UN on an academic level students are catapulted into the world of geo-political, social, economical, environmental, and judicial diplomacy and multilateral negotiation.

In an MUN, participants are termed as delegates. The put on the roles of ambassadors of the country assigned to them. They discuss and debate over current issues of pressing and urgent significance that are part of the agenda for the day. Through diplomacy and negotiation, delegates seek ways so that the world can be better equipped to combat issues that are ailing the development of societies, nations and the world at large. Conferences address important issues including regional conflicts, peacekeeping, human rights, women and children, economic and social development, and the environment.

The United Nations is a valuable organization as it brings together diverse members of an increasingly interdependent world to make collective decisions for the betterment of all. The role of the UN is to provide a forum for negotiation among interdependent states. Member states realize that the expanding problems of a planet know no national boundaries and choose to utilize the UN to discuss them and attempt to regulate and even solve them. They further recognize the UN as a unique environment where problems can be discussed and the world's best minds meet.

Often unrealistic expectations are set for the UN by those outside the organization, while the reality of the excellent work performed by the world body goes unnoticed. This is where Model United Nations programs come in. As a simulation of the United Nations and as a forum for discussion of world issues, students gain a unique knowledge of how the international system works. Model United Nations programs have the special, unique capability to educate tomorrow's world leaders and world citizens.
