Digital Rights Management Summit: Striking a Balance
Transformation of the Media, Entertainment, Advertising & Publishing Business
The media and entertainment industry consists of many di-fferent segments under its folds such as television, print, and films. It also includes smaller segments like radio, music, OOH, animation, gaming and visual e-ffects (VFX) and Internet advertising. Entertainment Industry in India has registered an explosive growth in last two decades making it one of the fastest growing industries in India. The current estimates of the Indian Entertainment and Media Industry are at US$14.4 billion in 2010. It is expected to expand by 12.5% every year and is likely to reach US$ 20.09 billion by the year 2013.
Currently, several significant developments are taking place in the aforementioned industries. In terms of technology, the Indian Media and Entertainment industry is going through the first phase of digitization of the cable industry. Digitization of cable and satellite broadcasting is now being taken up in earnest with plans to complete the nationwide rollout by December2014. The other transformation includes the shift in customer preferences towards home entertainment, emerging distribution mediums, such as the internet and IPTV and growth of Indian movie content with global appeal.
With these transformations taking place, the Indian media and entertainment industry depends on a number of key issues, including curbing piracy and protecting IP rights. Hence, the introduction of digital rights management one of its important aims being the prohibition of piracy. However, with the introduction of digital rights management, the balance between individual rights ownership and use of copyrighted works should be achieved. Therefore, Goldman Communications is proud to bring you "the Digital Rights Management Conference: Striking a Balance" to discuss the various challenges facing the Indian media and entertainment industry and how to resolve these issues.
