Two Day Multi-disciplinary Conference on Interrogating Disability: Theory and Practice
Institute of Development Studies Kolkata (IDSK) is devoted to advanced academic research and informed policy advice in the areas of literacy, education, health, women, employment, technology, communication human sciences and economic development. The academic programmes at IDSK include M.Phil and PhD programmes in social sciences and short training programmes for research scholars. IDSK has made its mark in the world of research in social sciences and humanities in West Bengal and Eastern India. It offers state-of-the-art IT and library facilities to its students and research scholars.
The conference aims to explore the varied issues within the field of disability, from problematizing the ways in which disability is conceptualized to understanding the everyday lived experience of disabled people in a society that is largely geared for able bodied people through structure that are exclusionary and discriminatory.

Call for Papers:
Papers are invited for a two-day multi-disciplinary conference on Interrogating Disability: Theory and Practice. A five hundred word abstract in English of a paper written for this conference may please be sent to Dr. Nandini Ghosh at email@example.com by 6th July, 2012.
The broad themes proposed are as follows:
- Theorizing Disability: Medical and Social Perspectives
- Framing Disability Rights: Discourse and Law
- Living with a Disability: Personal is Political
- Politics of Disability: Representation and Agency
- Disability and care
- Globalization and Disability in India
Authors of selected papers will be informed by 20th July, 2012. Full paper will have to be submitted by 7th September, 2012. The Concept Note is available in the website www.idsk.edu.in
